The challenge

SuRe food believes in the facts presented by Gro Intelligence that the world food crisis might be not more than a decade away. While it is anticipated that By 2050, the world will have to produce food enough to feed 9 billion people, the proteins play a significant role as a benchmark of the nutritional contributor for overall food requirements. The calorific intakes quantitatively and qualitatively change by two major means, i.e. income growth and population growth. We believe that this can not be achieved by one simple solution. Change and innovation have to be guided by technological improvisation, a green revolution and accelerating the consumer intimating more sustainable choices. It is quietly known that in majority regions of Europe and Northern America, the consumption pattern exceeds the biological requirement, whereas in parts of sub-Saharan Africa the demand cannot be satisfied with the low production rates. In the population-wise fast-growing regions of South and Central Asia, the demand in food composition and its origin is drastically changing with the fast-growing economies and changing the lifestyle of younger generations. The dietary patterns are transferring to animal-based diets, as a consequence of increasing available household income. With a single protein source, we can not solve the challenge to feed an exponentially growing population with arithmetically growing productions. The key factor which helps to avoid the food crisis is the development and incorporation of processes on the regional level, encompassing the food chain from farm-to-fork and beyond, for a global impact. We are convinced that the solutions for how to increase proteins supply, improve processing and convince consumers are already available, however, do not reach out far enough and does not focus on the right audience. Also, the solutions for the protein requirement for the world has to come regionally and cannot be a single global solution.

The solution

SuRe food provides a solution by dividing the world population geographically and based on the eating patterns of the societies. Also, a centralised organisation is necessary for uniform progress which is interconnected directly with local channels. Sub Saharan Africa: Infrastructural development for industrialised agriculture, Improvised processing for higher yields, secondary products India: Infrastructural development for reduced post-harvest waste industrialised agriculture, Improvised processing for higher yields, secondary products China: Promoting more sustainable dietary patterns, using and promoting new protein sources. US and Europe: Reducing Consumer food waste and improvising dietary pattern of people. This 5 regions combined make up the population of about 89% of the world today. Increasing global production for 9 billion people would require a 70% increase in total food production which can compensate for a total of 514 billion calories.
